ATAMEKEN INTENDS TO RAISE ISSUE OF TRANSITION TO NEW LABELING STANDARDS FOR DAIRY PRODUCTS
On January 16, 2019, the transitional period for the new, more stringent requirements of the EEU Technical Regulations "On the Safety of Milk and Dairy Products" for products with the addition of a milk fat substitute was finished.
The Eurasian Economic Commission did not support the positions of the three participating countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, which expressed disagreement with such an early transition to the new labeling standards for dairy products. Remind that the period was six months.
This period was not enough for Kazakhstani manufacturers to consume packaging materials in the amount of more than 6 million units worth 157 million tenge. The same holds true for Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
These data were identified based on the results of the monitoring conducted in order to establish the need for an extension of the transition period, brought to the attention of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
It is noteworthy that even before the tightening of the requirements of the technical regulations, until July 16, 2018, the manufacturers of milk-containing products marked the product label with the words "Contains plant fats/oils".
Nevertheless, the National Chamber intends to bring this issue to a higher level.
